Tablut Tablut is an ancient Viking strategy game that depicts the attack of the Russ against the Swedes. The Swedish king is threatened by greater armies, and so his objective is to escape - to literally get off the board! This game uses the capture form called "flanking" wherein a piece is captured when it is sandwiched between two opposing pieces. The exception here is that it takes four pieces (or three pieces plus the throne in the center square) to capture the king. Pieces move like chess rooks, as far as they wish in a straight rank-and-file unless another piece blocks their path. Take a look at Fitchneal also on this website - an Irish variation on the game. |
